Over the last 5–10 years, it seems major tech companies have adopted the most extreme black and white for their brand and UI.
That’s the blandest aesthetic choice a company can make.
Even if you worry that user-generated content (photos, videos) will clash with any color you choose, I assure you that you can design the space around that content neutrally while still having strong color everywhere else. It is possible.
Black and white may be timeless, but it’s also forgettable. Don’t do it.
Color is a tool that helps people identify and distinguish brands, just like the shape of a logo or the name a company. Forgoing it isn’t a sign of strength or market dominance, it’s a sign that you don’t understand the value and impact color can have.
