In civilized society, modern forms of protest lack any real threat to authority. When we don’t get what we want, we aren’t willing to do anything in retaliation.
Loudly stating what we want does close to nothing. Demands alone aren’t threatening. We’re not withholding anything, and we refuse to fight. We like to say “violence is never the answer,” even though we have evidence to prove otherwise.
The last school shooting will not be the last school shooting. Another state will ban abortion. And I’m sure a homeless sweep is taking place right now. No matter how loud we yell or how hard we vote, it isn’t changing fast enough, is it?
We say we’re part of a civilized society, so we believe we’re above doing things like property damage and violence as a means to motivate government to work for us. But if we were truly in a civilized society, would these terrible things still be happening?
Why do we have to resort to non-violence? Can’t we just kick their asses?
