Before video games—when Nintendo started manufacturing playing cards at scale—their factory floor was full of these wooden Marufuku crates, with hanafuda stacked inside.
My love of hanafuda began from a peculiar place. After discovering hanafuda through emoji, I began collecting over a hundred decks and even made my own. Owning one of these crates may be out of the question these days, but perhaps I can recreate one someday. Until then, a digital version will suffice.
