Three Little Moments

At a yōshoku restaurant with the fami, I ordered a classic: ketchup-fried spaghetti. Instead of the typical sausage, this one arrived with shrimp. And I don’t eat seafood.

Nikki (8) knows this and volunteered to eat them. When I picked up Tabasco, Daikichi (11) warned it’ll be too spicy for Nikki. Every time I found a shrimp, Nikki nabbed it. And as she ate the last one, she said it’s safe to use Tabasco now.

One of the café staff asked about a candy bar he’s never had, Butterfinger. They’re impossible to find in Japan. Later that day, my friend Todd conveniently asked if he could bring anything from America. A few days later, I presented the express-imported Butterfinger to the café staff.

When I sat at the counter a couple days later, he presented me with an almond chocolate bar he likes,「丸かじり小枝」.

This morning when taking out the trash, I bumped into Nob’s dad (75). He comes out with a Keith Haring New York shirt, looking at me wearing a 髭文字「龍虎」shirt.

There’s a moment I think about a fair bit from Kill Bill, where Hanzo speaks to Beatrix in the attic, “Funny. You like samurai swords. I like baseball.”
